The University of Panama and the University of International Studies in Beijing will create a Confucius Institute in Panama.
The Panamanian delegation of the University of Panama, headed by the Vice-rector Extension, Dra. Maria del Carmen Terrientes Benavides, Director of International Cooperation, Magister Gina Roman, the Director General of the Confucius Institute at the University of Panama, David Wuyi , held official visit to the Confucius Institute Headquarters, with the Deputy Director of Hanban and Deputy Director General of the Confucius Institute Headquarters, Mr. Xia Jianhui, and planning division Mr. Liu Bing and Mr. Huo Fuhai. The Permanent Representative of Panama China Trade Development Office, Miss Any Lam Chong L., and the University of International Studies in Beijing, Professor Nie Xin, also attended.
Protocol followed with the signing of implementation agreement between the University of Panama and the University of International Studies in Beijing, according to the establishment of the first Confucius Institute in Central America being formalized. The Confucius Institute will provide funds while the University of International Studies in Beijing will provide teachers and materials for studying Mandarin Chinese language and cultural classes. Present to this act were the current Representative of the China Panama Trade Development Office, Mr. Wang Wei Hua, and 3 ex - representatives of the same office in mentioned.
The Confucius Institute is a public nonprofit educational organization affiliated with the Ministry of Education of the PRC profit, and aims to promote the Mandarin language and Chinese culture, teaching internationally and facilitate cultural exchanges. This compares with organizations promoting language and culture, such as France (Alliance Française) of Spain (Cervantes Institute) or Germany (Goethe-Institut).
